CryoPen Lesion Removal

How CryoPen removal works

  1. Consultation: Before treatment, our certified registered nurse assesses the skin tag to ensure it is benign and suitable for removal.

  2. Application: A fine jet of nitrous oxide, at a temperature of around -89°Cnegative 89 degrees cap C −89°𝐶 , is precisely aimed at the skin tag.

  3. Freezing: The extreme cold rapidly freezes the intercellular fluid within the skin tag's cells. This forms ice crystals that rupture the cell membrane, destroying the cells. The ultra-cold temperature also cuts off the blood supply to the lesion.

  4. Healing: Over the next 10 to 14 days, the treated area will darken, dry up, and form a crust or scab. The dead tissue will eventually fall off naturally, revealing new, healthy skin underneath.

Advantages

  • Precision: The pinpoint accuracy of the CryoPen allows for safe treatment of skin lesions, even on delicate areas like the face or near the eyes.

  • Minimal discomfort: The procedure is generally quick and well-tolerated. The cold itself has a numbing effect, and any stinging sensation usually subsides shortly after treatment.

  • Low risk: Because it is a non-invasive, non-surgical procedure, there is a lower risk of infection or scarring compared to methods like surgical excision.

  • Minimal downtime: There is no recovery period, and patients can typically return to their normal activities immediately.

Potential side effects

The most common side effects are temporary and localized to the treatment area:

  • Redness, swelling, and a stinging or itching sensation for a short time after the procedure.

  • A blister or scab may form, which should not be picked to prevent scarring.

  • In some cases, temporary skin discoloration may occur, such as lightening (hypopigmentation) or darkening (hyperpigmentation).

What to expect after treatment

  • Immediate aftermath: The area may be red, swollen, and feel sensitive. A blister or scab is likely to form.

  • Healing process: The skin tag will dry up and fall off over a period of one to six weeks, depending on its size and location.

  • Follow-up: While one session is often enough, some lesions may require an additional treatment. New skin tags can also form over time in people who are prone to them
