Wound Care

Core Components Of Wound Care

  • Assessment: Our Professional registered nurse will examine the wound to determine its cause, size, depth, and overall condition. Factors such as blood supply, the patient's medical history, and nutritional status are also evaluated to develop a holistic treatment plan.

  • Cleaning and debridement: The wound is cleaned with sterile saline or a non-toxic solution to remove debris and bacteria. Debridement is the removal of dead, damaged, or infected tissue that can impede healing.

  • Infection control: Measures are taken to prevent and treat infections, which can escalate to serious complications like sepsis if left untreated.

  • Dressing: The wound is covered with a dressing to protect it from contamination and create an optimal environment for healing. Dressings also help manage moisture and absorb excess fluid.

  • Underlying condition management: Our registered nurse will address underlying issues that can affect healing, such as diabetes or poor circulation.

  • Patient education: We will ensure patients and caregivers are taught proper cleaning techniques, how to recognize signs of infection, and other wound care instructions to follow at home.  Follow up appointments can be recommended based on initial consultation and the complexity of the wound.
